The Busy Alphas…

The alphas have been working on community building. We are looking at, reading about, and having discussions about ways to communicate and how to acknowledge feelings. We have been playing a lot of games together during open choice to practice what we are learning.

We read about Martin Luther King, Jr. and watched part of his “I Have a Dream”, then we made a collage poster together for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

We have been looking at different ways to count collections  and how to represent those ways. We have started learning about the base ten blocks as an entry into place value.

The Alphas (with Ezra’s leadership) have continued their desire to help Vermont in the wake of Irene. The penny drive for Vermont’s covered bridges was a big success. Now they have donated parts of their allowances and made things to sell because they want to give money to help people who were hurt by the storm. We haven’t picked the organization to give our money to yet.
