Scientists at work in the Omega room…

In the Omega classroom, we have been building rockets!

As a part of our “Scientists at Work” unit, we have been building rockets out of paper, cardboard and other materials. They are powered by a small isobutane reaction, similar to the explosions that power an internal combustion engine. The Omegas have been learning about the process of designing, prototyping and design modification to meet an engineering goal, just like applied scientists all over the world. In addition to discovering the importance of accurate recording keeping and data collection, the omegas have learned that accurate records of the design process, as well as careful measurement (in metric, the international standard of scientific measurement) are a big part of successful design.
