Each class has Spanish two times a week and Music once a week. Older children have Current Events once a week. In addition to recess, physical education occurs once or twice a week.
What to Wear…
Please be sure your child is prepared for an active day at school and prepared for the weather. Schoolhouse students spend some time outside every day. Children will need boots, raincoats, mud suits, winter coats and snow pants, hats, mittens and scarves Please label all outerwear with your child’s name. Please check your child’s cubby for wet clothing. Children need to change into indoor shoes in the winter and wet weather; shoes must have backs and sturdy soles, no slippers.
What to Bring…
Shoes and Clothes
There are large cubbies in the entryway assigned to all children where they hang their coats, book bags, etc. and change from outside shoes to inside shoes.
Please have two pairs of shoes for your child – one pair for the outdoors and one pair of sneakers with non-marking soles for the gym. Gym shoes may serve as inside shoes. All shoes at schoolhouse must have backs (for safety reasons – fire drills, etc.)
Children are required to have an extra set of seasonally appropriate clothes. Please be sure to label all items with your child’s name.
Lunch and Snack
Children need a healthy lunch every day. Children can bring a healthy snack for their morning break if they wish. The Schoolhouse does not allow candy, soda, or excessive sweets. Milk can be purchased separately. Pizza is available once a week for lunch, and parents can opt for this as well.
Drop off and Pick Up…
Please call the school if your child will be absent.
Children are to arrive at school between 8:15 AM and 8:30 AM. Please park only in designated parking areas. Around the island and directly in front of the school are fire lanes, where no parking is allowed. Overflow parking is available in the back lot. When you arrive, please bring your child into the school. School ends at 2:45 PM. Parents must come into the school to pick up their child(ren). For safety, we ask that children never be left unattended in the parking lot. If children are being picked up by someone other than their parent or guardian, written permission must be indicated on the child’s “Ride Permission” form.
If a child is not picked up by 3:00 PM, then the Schoolhouse Afterschool program will take the child until the adult arrives and you will be charged the current rate for afterschool, due when you pick up your child.
If you are delayed unexpectedly, please call the school.
School Schedule/Snow Days…
The Schoolhouse generally follows the South Burlington School District calendar with respect to vacations, holidays, teacher in-service days and closing of the school due to inclement weather. Tune to local radio and television stations for weather related announcements. A phone tree will also be initiated in case of closures.
