Information

Children will participate in programming in both large and small groups throughout the morning and afternoon. Multi-age groups will often be the norm, but some activites will call for children to be in a same-age small group. Each group will be with a camp counselor throughout the day who will facilitate activities and oversee childrens' wellbeing.

The Program

The camp is open at 8:30am for registration (first day) or check-in (all other days) and supervised, unstructured playtime until Opening Circle. At 9am camp begins with an Opening Circle for all children. The first session/activity begins directly after Opening Circle with mid-morning break for snack. Children will often be divided into small, multi-age groups and assigned a camp counselor. Each group will participate in theme-related activities (crafts, cooking, games, etc.) Lunch begins at 12 noon. All children must bring their own lunch and morning snack. Afternoon activities will include outdoor water play (weather permitting: slip & slide, sprinkler, etc.), structured games, nature walks on the wetlands, and many other theme-related activities. Structured afternoon activities will end between 3:30 and 4pm. Children will then prepare for snack and the entire camp will enjoy snack, then a quiet story, followed by supervised, unstructured playtime until closing. Last pickup is at 5:30pm.

Late pickups

Camp closes at 5:30pm. If you are late, you must call the camp directly to inform staff. The number is 658-4164. Late pickups are charged $5.00, paid directly to the staff member waiting with your child.

Parent Involvement

In Schoolhouse tradition, parents are welcome to join the Schoolhouse Summer Camp activities at any time. You may stay for opening circle, drop in to observe a group activity, join us for outside play or pick your child up early. If you wish to become more involved in camp activites, please contact the summer camp committee chair to discuss your options.

Performances & Art Displays

Schoolhouse has a longstanding tradition of showcasing children's work throughout the year in art displays, performances and cultural celebrations. Some weeks of camp will be following this tradition with an art display or celebration at the end of the week. You will be informed during the week of your child's attendance if these events will be happening.

Location

The Schoolhouse is located in a modern, spacious facility amid 27 peaceful acres of wetlands, with access to trails and a bikepath, and with several ponds and streams to explore. Schoolhouse is less than 10 minutes from University Mall.

Financial Aid

Summer camp tuition for campers is $215 per week. Staff aide tuition is $100. The Schoolhouse is committed to maintaining diversity, including socio-economic diversity. Families may apply for a reduced rate by filling out the financial aid application. Financial aid is limited, so please apply early.

Subsidy

Our summer camp accepts full and partial subsidies. Families receiving a subsidy will need to pay the difference between their subsidy payment and the reduced fee of $150 per week. Full payment is due at least 2 weeks before attendance.
