PreKindergarten/Kindergarten/1st Grade Teacher

Opportunity to join a collaborative team of skilled educators in a progressive academic environment. The Schoolhouse Learning Center seeks a full-time Elementary teacher to lead a multi-age class of diverse learners. You will design, implement and assess the curriculum in literacy, social studies and science, and integrate project- and field-based opportunities with core subject areas. Our ideal candidate will possess the leadership skills and confidence to take on the challenge of creating and encouraging broad learning opportunities while providing a strong foundational core.


Job qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience leading a classroom; minimum of three years teaching experience at the elementary level; experience in alternative learning environments a plus but not necessary (we will train)

  • Background in the science of reading, ideally Orton Gillingham scope and sequence; must be willing to train in OG

  • Ability and desire to integrate social and environmental justice concepts across all teaching

  • Passion for and knowledge of place-based and project-based learning

  • Commitment to a strengths-based approach for nurturing students' social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth

  • Willingness to work with and be mentored by the current preK/K/1st grade teacher and their predecessor, and to work closely with our literacy and math specialists

Job benefits:

Preschool teachers

The Schoolhouse Learning Center seeks classroom and flex teachers for our nature and play-based preschool program. Candidates should enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors in all weather, hiking, exploring, and teaching children about the natural world, as well as supporting a social-justice focused preschool curriculum. This is a wonderful position for a high school graduate looking for a meaningful gap year experience, a recent college graduate interested in a career in education with an emphasis on nature, play, and social justice, or anyone exploring an interest in teaching/education.  Learn from a fantastic team of experienced teachers, in a progressive school with a long track record of success.
This position can be part time or full time.


Job qualifications:

  •  Some experience working with young children is preferred, we will train the right candidate.

  • BA in education or in a science/nature related field preferred. High School diploma required.

  • Teachers must attend 15 hours of professional development training in early childhood education each year, and obtain certification in First Aid/CPR.

Substitute teachers (all programs)

Substitute teachers (Prek-8th grade) needed for our year-round programs at all age levels – preschool, elementary school, middle school and afterschool. We are looking for dedicated candidates who enjoy working with children of various ages. The Schoolhouse values student choice, open-ended play, a connection to nature, and positive support for students. We also seek to provide a school environment dedicated to anti-bias and social justice practices. Flexibility, levelheadedness, and a sense of humor are important in this role. Excellent communication skills a must. Training will be provided. Immediate openings.
